  • MARCH 2012

    1. The Municipality of Larnaca and the Europe Direct Information Centre in Larnaca organized on Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at 7:00 pm at the House of Letter & Art an informational event "The Women's Entrepreneurship in the EU."
      The event was greeting by the Director of Industry Mr. John Short and we had an informative presentation for the Women's Entrepreneurship in the EU from an Officer from the Trade and Industry Department, Ms Vicky Tsaggaridou. Also, a presentation function of the EURODESK became from an officer also.
    2. On March 31, 2012, held in Europe Square in Larnaca, cultural event for the "Earth’s Hour.'' From 8.30 pm until 9.30, the Municipality turned off all the lights and in the candlelight dances presented by dance bands.
  • FEBRUARY 2012

    LARNAKA, THE CITY THAT WE LOVE: The February 15 has been established by the Municipality of Larnaka as the day that we love our city. The purpose of this institution is the evolution of events in a festival of initiatives of individuals, schools, organizations, societies, sports and voluntary groups, who during the day will celebrate and declare through voluntary actions of love for our city.The Europe Direct Information Center in Larnaca sponsored the event and participated actively and highlighted the importance of volunteering.

    EUROPEAN DATA PROTECTION DAY 2012 

    On January 27, 2012, from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. there was a stand at Foinikoudes Promenade in Larnaca and informational material was distributed from the Office of the Commissioner for Data Protection and Europe Direct Larnaca. All citizens who came get a lot of information for this important day, and how they can protect their personal data.

    Music Day 2011 was celebrated again in Cyprus, this year in Larnaca, on Sunday 19 June, under the title "European Music Festival". Everyone were invited to join for free the concerts organized at Europe Square (Foinikoudes) and enjoy the music by Stavento, Melisses, Ivi Adamou, Gil, Tat-Tnabar and DJ Evi Adam.

    The European Music Festival 2011 was organized by the European Parliament Office and the Representation of the European Commission in Cyprus, the Press and Information Office, the Ministry of Labour and Social Insurance, the Ministry of Education and Culture, the Municipality of Larnaca, the Europe Direct Centre in Larnaca, the French Embassy and the French Institute in Cyprus.

    Participating artists were the Greek groups Stavento and Melisses, the French group Gil, the Cypriot ethnic group Tat-tnabar, the Cypriot singer Ivi Adamou and the Greek DJ Evi Adam. Also there was a live link by Radio Sfera 96,8

    This year's event was dedicated to the European Year of Volunteering 2011. Music is the best way to unite us all under the summer sky and spread the message: "Volunteer! Make a difference".

  • On Thursday 12th, was organized the organized the musical performance ''My Mother the Swallow ‘’as part of the celebrations for Mother's Day. It was held a morning performance for students of secondary schools and an evening for the general public. In both performances was given material on the equality policies of the EU.

  • ’Environmental Week’ (09-15/05/2011): Europe Direct Larnaca participated in the events organized by the Municipality of Larnaca:
    • On Monday 9th, was organized a children's theatrical performance on the environment and save energy.
    • On Tuesday 10th, an event was held with the ecological elementary schools at Larnaca Municipal Theatre and then we had environmental activities at the Municipal Gardens.
    • On Wednesday 11th, an event was held with public eco-kindergartens of Larnaca and Famagusta in the platform of Palm Tree Promenade. After the event all the children cleaned the beach.
    • On Thursday 12th, we had a tree planting in the Forest of Pattichion Theater from eco- schools.
    • On Friday 13, an event was held at the Lyceum Makarios III in the context of the European program PIMMS TRANSFER with main speaker the Commissioner for the Environment in Cyprus Mr. Charalambos Theopemptou. Also, a workshop on environmental issues was organized for high school students in the House of Literature and Arts in Larnaca.

On Saturday and Sunday, 14th and 15th of May, a campaigning was held for recycling electrical and electronic equipment, in cooperation with recycling companies and after organized groups, cleaned voluntarily beaches, parks and salt from.

  • April 2011

    1. On the 2nd and 3rd of April 2011, held in Larnaca Municipal Theatre, the 16th International Piano Competition 2011 from the Music Foundation “Evangelia Tjiarri Music Foundation’’, with the kind sponsorship of the Europe Direct Information Centre Larnaca and the Municipality of Larnaca . This important cultural event helps musicians from various countries to showcase their talent.

    2. "Energy Days in Europe (11-15/04/2011)": The Europe Direct Information Centre Larnaca participated in the events organized by the Municipality of Larnaca. On 11th of April 2011, an event was organized in order to inform high school students. The Europe Direct Information Centre Larnaca with other experts presented EU policies on energy conservation, energy production from renewable sources and reducing emissions of CO2. Students and teachers had the opportunity to participate in a public dialogue with local authorities for the development and implementation of Sustainable Energy. Furthermore, in the context of the events on "Energy Days", was organized a theatrical performance for children of eco- kindergartens.
  • March 2011

    1. On March 8 was organized in collaboration with the Makarios III Lyceum, the poetry night ‘Unlocking the words’ ‘under the European Year of Volunteering. The children wrote and recited poems for the children of Uganda who suffer daily from poverty and hardship.

    2. On March 21 held at the House of Arts and Letters in Larnaca in cooperation with the Municipality of Larnaca, an open discussion on ‘Unemployment and economic crisis, prospects for 2011.''Speakers were the President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Larnaca, Mr. Dinos Lefkaritis, the Director of Finance of the Directorate of Budget and Fiscal Control Mr. Stavros Michael and the academic Dr. Joseph Josephides.

    3. On March 23 took place in the Europe Square in cooperation with the Municipality of Larnaca, the occurrence of ‘Earth Hour'', which was attended various primary schools in the city. During the event children painted their thoughts and ideas on the Earth, which is tested daily by many disasters. The children enjoyed the mascot of the Cyprus Telecommunications Authority, the famous Telis. Also, the children were informed about the importance of protecting the environment from the officer of the Europe Direct Information Centre in Larnaca Ms. Myrto Katsouri. The event was part of the actions for the Earth’s Day, which this year is set for Saturday, March 26, 2011, from 8.30 pm until 9.30. The event was held in collaboration with the Environmental Movement, the Green Party and Green Party Youth.
  • December 2010

    1. Visit the Saint George Lyceum and talk to the students for the Human Rights and the protection of them in the context of the E.U. (10.12.10).

    2. About 60 students from the Pankyprio Lyceum of Larnaca visit the Centre and talk to them about their human rights.

    3. We became sponsors of theatrical ''Tipper Life' 'which deals with Road Safety (18.12.10). The play deals with the life of a family and how it affected after a road accident. The project has received excellent reviews for the messages to be promoted and placed under the auspices of the honorable Minister of Communications and Works Mrs. Erato Marcoullis
  • “European Mobility Week”



  • On the 6th of June 2010 the Universal Environment Day was celebrated with huge success. The dancing group of Voroklinis called ‘New Generation’ and the ethnic group Tat-Tnabar supported the event.


  • Europe Direct of Larnaca contributed to the Beach Volley and Beach Tennis that was organised by the Youth Center of Larnaca and the Youth Information Center. At the tournament 12 groups of youngsters participated.


  • On Sunday 30th of May Europe Direct participated at the Children's Festival of the Municipality of Larnaca on the occasion of the International Children's Day that is celebrated on the 1st if June. The children participated in various artistic and sporting activities and enjoyed free ice cream.


  • Europe Direct celebrated the Day of Europe (that was established on the 9th of May) by organizing an Exhibition called “Influence” from the 3/5-8/5/10. The work of young artists from Cyprus and Greece was exposed and impressed the public.


  • The Environmental week was held from the 26/4-2/5/10. Some of the activities that took place during the week, were lectures at schools, the cleaning of the beach, ecological creations by students and distribution of plants to the residents of our town.



  • Europe Direct in cooperation with the Youth Center of Larnaca organized on the 17/4/2010 an interesting and funny game called “Hunting the treasure” in order to celebrate the European Day for the Information of Youth.

    • The 15th Evangelia Tziarri National and International Piano Competition took place from the 10th -12th of April . Europe Direct played a part for the first time by awarding the children who won.

    • A lecture on “The position of Women in 2010 both in Cyprus and Europe” was held with great success on the 17th of March 2010 at the House of Letters and Arts. The main speaker of the event was the Honourable Minister of Labour and Social Insurance, Mrs. Sotiroula Charalambous, who informed the attendants on the women’s potentials of employment, their rights and the various legislations which regulate these. The lecture was welcomed by the Honourable Mayor of Larnaca, Mr. Andreas Moiseos, and the Head of the Representation of the European Commission in Cyprus, Mrs. Androula Kaminara. The lecture was followed by a reception. 


    • On March 3rd 2010, the Head of the Representation of the European Commission in Cyprus, held the inauguration ceremony of the exhibition “The Minority of Creative and Dedicated People have almost always made the world a better place”. The event was a great success. The exhibition will remain open (at the House of Letters and Arts) until the 23rd of March 2010. For further information, please call us on 24 817 737.

    • 24th November 2009 – Presentation on “Climate Changes” at the Kalogeras Primary School and distribution of informative material.
    • 18th October 2009 – European Neighbours’ Day – Distribution of informative material.
    • 13th to 14th October 2009 – Participation of the Europe Direct Larnaca centre in the two-day conference of the European Programme PIMMS.
    • 18th June 2009 – Inauguration Ceremony of the Europe Direct Centre.

    • 23rd October 2009 – Distribution of printed material at Kindergartens “Mikrokosmos”, “Ta Lagoudakia” and “Puzzlakia”.  
    • 23rd October 2009 – Distribution of printed material at “Microcom” corporation.  
    • 16th – 22nd September 2009 – European Mobility Week.
    • 3/10/17/24 August 2009 – Presentation of the objectives of Europe Direct Larnaca to the entire personnel of the Municipality of Larnaca.
    • 17/12/2009 – Visit by students of the Pancyprian Lyceum at Europe Direct Larnaca. Presentation of the European Union’s History.
    • 21/12/2009 – Visit by the students of the Makarios III Lyceum at Europe Direct Larnaca. Presentation of European Funds for Larnaca.
